Lament

She was born weeping like a healthy new-born baby, but I knew there was more to her story than just fear of the unknown. Lament never stopped crying. Day after day, I would return to the studio to find fresh tears on the canvas. People often assume that the art piece is telling the story of the artist, and that's not always the case for me. A lot of the time, the art piece is telling the story of the owner, even if we haven't yet found out who that person is. I truly believe art pieces want to exist in the world for a particular someone. It's just a matter of finding who that person is. 

I'm unsure why Lament was crying, but I know once she finds her owner, the pieces will all come together. 

My job as an artist is to never intervene in the process. I just knew that I needed to preserve these tears because it's what she wanted. And of course, the name "Lament" was the perfect name for her. 

Lament will exhibit in next year's solo exhibition titled NAKED.
